Happy St. Patrick's Day! ☘☘
Mecklenburg county's weather this Monday will be much quieter than the weekend's wildness, with 50 tornado reports across the Deep South on Saturday alone. Fortunately the instability (sometimes called "storm fuel") across Virginia was dampened - literally - by clouds and showers ahead of the main event. Thus the storms locally weren't as strong as they could have been.
This is the surface weather map at 8 o'clock this morning:
The blue line added to the graphic represents the final cold front from the weekend's system. That boundary will slowly work its way offshore today, taking this morning's showers with it. The sun will begin peeking through the clouds after the lunch hour, and temperatures will top out in the upper 50s accompanied by a northwesterly breeze.Skies will continue to clear tonight as cooler air moves in, dropping local thermometer readings to the mid-30s by the 7:20 a.m. sunrise on Tuesday. Tomorrow will then feature afternoon highs in the mid-60s, with March sunshine quickly warming things up. That's a couple degrees above the mid-March average. Wednesday then looks to bring back the 70s.
