Yes, snow is in the forecast midweek

Sunday's raucous winds resulted in maximum gusts at or near 40 mph at several sites around Mecklenburg county. At the moment it appears that widespread power outages from these gales have been confined to areas along and just east of the Blue Ridge crest. The wind will gust over 20 mph at times around the county today (Monday, Presidents' Day), gradually settling by mid-afternoon.

Temperatures this week will remain below late February averages, with highs today only reaching the mid-40s. Skies will be sunny today and at least partly sunny tomorrow as clouds ahead of the next storm system approach from the southwest. Tomorrow morning will begin with thermometer readings in the upper 20s, and afternoon highs will touch the mid-40s again.

Thence comes the next winter storm. By midmorning Wednesday the entire county should be seeing flakes. This evolution looks to be mostly all snow, with only a small chance of sleet likely from this storm. Here is the National Weather Service's current forecast for accumulations:

Note the higher amounts east of I-95. Should the storm track be a few miles west of what the models are showing right now those totals could creep into Mecklenburg county. Thus it is imperative that folks should stay tuned to updated forecasts.

And find those snow shovels!
