After a cool and somewhat cloudy start today - Monday - will bring high temperatures in the mid-60s to Mecklenburg county under mostly sunny skies. A southwesterly breeze will usher in warmth and moisture from the Gulf source region. Earlier sunrise (at 7:15 am today) and later sunset times (5:42 pm this afternoon) are providing more daylight hours as the spring equinox nears.
Tuesday then looks to fan the flames of spring fever, with continued sunny skies and afternoon highs at or just above 70ยบ. A dry cold front will work its way through the county tomorrow afternoon, swapping the winds around out of the north. As a result cooler air will work its way into the region overnight Tuesday, setting the stage for a reminder that it's still officially winter.
At the moment Wednesday looks to bring a chance of liquid rain after lunch as temperatures remain in the 40s locally. However, all meteorological eyes are on the freezing line as it wobbles across Virginia on Hump Day. At the moment that boundary appears to remain along the I-64 corridor, keeping probabilities of freezing rain (purple hatched area below) north of Mecklenburg sites:
However, should that below-freezing air sag further southward (as a couple of forecast models are hinting at) Wednesday could be a bit messy around the county. We'll take a closer look at that in the next blogpost.
