With little time available for a post this Sunday morning here's an update on the upcoming wintry weather. The National Weather Service office has issued a Winter Weather Advisory which covers Mecklenburg county (the violet shade in this graphic):
Precipitation looks to hold off until almost sunset today. The overall effect of this storm will be more ice than snow locally. The reason for the mixture is the air temperature above the surface. As warm air sneaks in overhead it will change the snow to a mix of sleet and freezing rain as shown on this graphic:The precipitation will continue through Monday before the storm pulls out to sea. Sunshine will return Tuesday, along with more very chilly temperatures. Meanwhile, be careful on the roads and sidewalks tonight and tomorrow as slippery conditions could make for tricky driving and walking.
