Clarksville won the low temperature "prize" this Friday morning, with the airport thermometer dropping to 19 degrees. Other local sites were only a degree or two warmer, so no one could claim a balmy feeling to the beginning of the day. Sunny skies will help boost those readings into the upper 30s this afternoon, still quite chilly by early December averages.
Saturday morning will again be rather frigid, with temperatures akin to those this morning. But tomorrow looks to be a transition day as the core of the Arctic air begins to move out of the region. Afternoon highs will climb into the mid-40s under continued sunny skies, while surface winds will swing around from the northwest to a more westerly direction.
After a chilly start in the upper 20s Sunday then will feature more December-like conditions. Temperatures will top out in the upper 50s with southwesterly breezes ushering in warmer air. Skies will remain clear during the day, but clouds will roll in Sunday night as the next weather system approaches.
Next week looks to begin warmer but wet. That warmth will be accompanied by some much needed rainfall. The latest Drought Monitor indicates that much of Virginia - including Mecklenburg county - has returned to the Moderate Drought stage.
Happy Friday!
