"Chamber of Commerce" weather continues

Could there be any better October weather than what Mecklenburg county is experiencing? Sunny skies, calm winds, and temperatures at or a bit above average will dominate the area for an extended period. This snapshot taken from the Clarksville Lake Country Chamber of Commerce cameras shows steam fog swirling around over the lake waters this Sunday morning:

This occurs when dry cool air is moistened by contact with the warmer lake waters, bringing the near-surface air to the dew point.

High pressure sprawling across the eastern half of the nation will keep these conditions around this entire work week. Temperatures which began this morning near 40 degrees will climb into the mid-70s this afternoon. That trend will continue this week, with temperatures warming a couple of degrees each day until a dry cold front swoops through on Thursday. Even then local thermometers will only drop to average October values.

The chief fly in the ointment to this balmy autumn weather is that no rain is in the forecast. After a very dry summer - broken only by tropical rains - let's hope that drought conditions don't rush back into the region.
