A raw Sunday but a nicer work week ahead

As the post title indicates today - Sunday - will be a raw day around Mecklenburg county. Clouds and showers will cover the area, with temperatures not rising much above this morning's upper 40s and low 50s. Rain totals will likely be between a quarter- and a half-inch, a bit more than indicated on this NWS Wakefield graphic:

The culprit for this yucky weather is a low pressure system which formed along the cold front that pushed south of the area yesterday and then stalled along the southeastern U.S. coast. Precipitation will continue throughout the day before tapering off during the early evening hours. Light northerly breezes will increase that raw feeling with temperatures 20-25 degrees below late April averages.

Tonight skies will clear as that low pressure pulls away to the east, and thermometer readings around the county will dive into the mid- and upper 30s by dawn Monday. Tomorrow will then feature sunny skies with continued cooler than average conditions. With northerly winds temperatures look to top out only in the mid-60s Monday afternoon.

The work week will be dry and mostly sunny with a gradual warming trend until another cold front swoops through Wednesday. By the latter part of the week Southside Virginia may be dealing with another cold air damming setup. Yay...
