Breezy Sunday, with cool weather much of the work week

The low pressure center which crossed Mecklenburg county Saturday is still affecting local conditions. Sunny skies today - Palm Sunday - will be tempered by northerly winds gusting over 20 mph as that storm system edges away from the East Coast. Meanwhile, temperatures behind a couple of cold fronts which also crossed the county are significantly cooler, starting today at or near freezing.

This graphic illustrates the 24 hour drop from yesterday morning's readings across the eastern third of the nation:

This afternoon's high temperatures will top out in the low 50s, ten to fifteen degrees below the average maximum for this date. However, winds will settle down a bit as evening approaches.

Monday looks to dawn with thermometers dipping below freezing once again. Tomorrow will warm to the 60 degree mark, still several degrees below average for late March despite bright sunshine. Northerly winds will continue but will be less brisk than today's gustiness. The remainder of the work week will also be cooler than average, with more rain expected by Wednesday.

The good news? Easter weekend looks to be dry and warmer, with afternoon temperatures likely to reach into the 70s.
