Dry Friday, a few showers Saturday, then a wet Sunday lies ahead

The recent quiet stretch of weather is coming to an end today (Friday). Mecklenburg county is in the warm sector of a storm system, which itself will scoot across the Great Lakes region into New England by late Saturday. As such, local winds have swapped around out of the southwest, dew points (i.e. humidity) have risen, and clouds have moved in overhead.

Temperatures will climb from this morning's readings in the low 40s to afternoon highs in the low 60s. That's ten degrees above the average for this date. Tonight that blanket of clouds will trap the day's warmth such that Saturday morning's lows will only drop to near 50. Coupled with gusty southwesterly winds pumping in even warmer air local thermometers will likely touch 70(!) degrees tomorrow afternoon.

Some scattered showers will dampen parts of the county Saturday, but most of the day will be dry. There will likely be some peeks of sunshine as well. A cold front will then enter the area during the overnight hours and stall out not far south of the state line.

Most of the rain for this weekend will arrive on Sunday thanks to a low pressure system developing along that stalled front. Sunday's high temperature in the mid- to upper 50s looks to occur early in the day before cooler air drops southward into the county. Rain totals for the weekend will top out at a half-inch or less as shown here:

All in all the first part of the weekend will bring decent enough conditions for outdoor activities. Sunday into Monday? Not so much.
